The Opportunity
As a Structural Engineering Technician in the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering team, you will support the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Lines. Under general supervision, you will create and modify structural models, drawings, and details using industry‑standard design tools (AutoCAD, Micro Station, PLS‑CADD). You may also provide technical guidance to other engineering professionals and technicians.
Key Responsibilities- Support engineering teams under general supervision
- Perform technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Use digital tools and design software (CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
- Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
- Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
- Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
- Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
- Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
- Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
- Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
- Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
- Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes
Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Minimum QualificationsTypically a minimum of 2 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search, compliance with applicable laws).
Work Environment & Physical Demands- This position requires working in a typical office environment. Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use are expected, with attention to detail throughout the workday.
- The position may also require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, standing/walking for extended periods.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
