Job Summary
The Senior Project Manager, Onsite Generation Projects, will lead onsite generation projects, ensuring suppliers and EPC contractors effectively plan and execute projects within budget and schedule constraints. Projects may include gas turbines, geothermal, Small Modular Reactors (SMR), fuel cells, or other technologies. This role works closely with the Onsite Generation Project Team, providing commercial and technical oversight of suppliers and contractors, ensuring equipment delivery, construction schedules, and budgets are met, identifying risks and opportunities, and reporting to executive leadership on project status.
Responsibilities- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of onsite generation initiatives, including major equipment procurement, engineering oversight, EPC partner management, and successful commissioning across assigned projects.
- Drive structured project governance, leading high‑impact project reviews and setting clear expectations, priorities, and corrective actions for QTS teams and external partners.
- Contribute to the development and scaling of a high‑performing onsite generation project management organization, building capabilities, defining standards, and ensuring consistent execution as the program expands.
- Build and strengthen relationships with top‑tier EPC firms, positioning QTS for long‑term partnership value, execution excellence, and capacity growth.
- Lead commercial negotiations for EPC agreements, securing terms and conditions that drive mutual value, protect QTS risk positions, and support overall program scalability.
- Serve as a senior relationship steward across internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with development, legal, engineering, operations, finance, supply chain, and key suppliers and contractors.
- Own and communicate project‑level financial performance, delivering clear reporting, forecasts, and insights to QTS leadership on budget, risk, and strategic investment priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, energy management, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least eight years of experience working on power generation projects, including at least two years of onsite construction experience, with commissioning experience preferred.
- Proven track record of managing a multidisciplinary engineering team to complete successful power generation projects.
- Ability to command a room of equipment supply professionals, EPC contractors, and/or Project Managers and engineers.
- Understanding of typical schedules for power generation projects, including construction schedules.
- Able to travel up to 50% of the time or as needed to support relationship‑building and delivery of projects.
- Master’s degree in business, engineering, construction, energy management, or equivalent professional experience.
- Twelve or more years of experience working on power generation projects, including at least two years of onsite construction experience, with commissioning experience preferred.
- Experience leading large‑scale power generation projects (over 600 MW).
- Established relationships with leading utility construction & EPC partners.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate EPC agreements (over $200M).
