Opportunity
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer for hydropower projects. The role involves leading the design and management of new and upgraded hydropower systems, including turbines, dams, generators, and ancillary systems.
Scope of work:
- Hydro turbines – condition assessment, hydraulic evaluations, and FEA calculations
- Dam and water conveyance – radial gates, large valves, spillway gates
- Generator evaluation and cooling systems
- Raw water, oil, and fire protection systems
- HVAC and compressed air systems
- Turbine and generator bearings
- Instrumentation support
- Crane/hoist systems
Additional duties may include dam safety inspections, HVAC design improvements, the design of low‑level outlets, and support for hydro unit disassembly/reassembly operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop engineering knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, and applicable codes.
- Ensure compliance with the company quality program, including continuous improvement and change management.
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables, perform equipment/materials selection, and conduct advanced engineering calculations.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on projects of moderate complexity.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in succession planning.
- Assist with resource management, policy communication, and administrative duties such as approving timesheets and expense reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of mechanical or systems engineering experience in power generation or related fields.
- Experience managing projects/programs in a utility power plant environment.
- Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped storage hydroelectric stations.
- Client‑facing experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience. Successful completion of background checks and other pre‑employment requirements is required.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, occasional site visits requiring physical tasks.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after 90 days based on performance.
