The OpportunityBlack & Veatch seeks a Lead Instrumentation & Controls professional to lead a team of I&C engineers and support technical design, procurement, and coordination for nuclear and power generation plants. The role involves work on projects ranging from large‑scale nuclear power plants to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Responsibilities- Generate engineering design documents and deliverables for plant systems (e.g., logic diagrams, network architecture, instrument lists, I/O lists, instrument installation details, schematics, wiring drawings, calculations, studies, technical specifications).
- Lead, supervise, and mentor lower‑level engineers; review and provide oversight of their work.
- Previous I&C design experience for large‑scale power plants.
- Experience developing control system network architecture diagrams, I/O lists, instrument data sheets, control narratives, control logic diagrams, P&IDs, and procurement specifications for I&C equipment.
- Experience in instrumentation and process automation systems selection.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Receptive to internal and client feedback.
- Willingness to learn industry‑specific processes and procedures.
- Flexibility in work hours as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen, motor vehicle records).
- Active engineering registration or licensure for support engineer of record (EOR) as applicable.
- Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Physical tasks during site visits (crouching, grasping, standing/walking for extended periods).
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days.
