The Opportunity

Lead, design, and manage new and upgraded projects on hydropower systems, including (but not limited to) turbine and generator evaluations, dam and water conveyance systems, HVAC, fire protection, instrumentation, and more.

  • Hydro turbines, including condition assessments, hydraulic evaluations, & FEA calculations
  • Dam and water conveyance, including radial gates and large valves
  • Generator evaluations and cooling systems
  • Raw water and oil systems
  • Fire protection and HVAC systems
  • Turbine and generator bearings
  • Compressed air systems
  • Instrumentation support
  • Crane/hoist systems

Also may perform dam safety inspections and design improvements to HVAC systems, spillway gates and hoists, instream flow release, and low-level outlets. Support hydro unit disassembly and reassembly operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and company policies. Provide technical guidance to others.
  • Apply knowledge and comply with quality program relative to assigned tasks. Support continuous improvement and change management.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Perform research, develop equipment/material recommendations, and prepare calculations. Manage budget, schedule, and quality. Delegate tasks, review work, lead production teams, coordinate activities, and serve as project charge.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
  • Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers. Communicate to team and develop approaches to accommodate concerns. Support business development or pursuit activities.
  • Act as a technical specialist providing consultation and guidance in a particular practice area. Design complete projects or support multiple projects and foster knowledge management.
  • Mentor lower-level professionals and identify successors.
  • Assist with resource management strategy and engineering resources for small groups. Account for administrative responsibilities such as ensuring policies, procedures, and processes are implemented, approving timesheets and expense reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of mechanical or systems engineering experience in power generating facilities or related fields.
  • Previous experience managing projects and/or programs in a utility power plant setting.
  • Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped storage hydroelectric generation stations.
  • Previous client-facing role experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
Work Environment and Schedule
  • Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Physical tasks during site visits, such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days.
