The Encompass Group is partnering with a well-established, employee-owned multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm to identify a Director of Civil Engineering to lead and grow its Civil Engineering practice.

Candidates can be based in either the Lincoln/Omaha, Nebraska area OR Overland Park, Kansas.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) who brings a strong combination of civil engineering expertise, team leadership, project management, client relationships, and business development experience.

The Director will lead an established team of approximately 5–6 engineers and designers while driving the strategic growth of the practice. A key focus will be expanding external business, developing new client relationships, and growing the firm's presence across Nebraska and Kansas.

Candidates with established relationships in Kansas City/Overland Park market are especially attractive as the firm continues expanding its presence throughout Kansas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of civil engineers and designers.
  • Drive the strategic growth of the Civil Engineering practice.
  • Develop new business and build relationships with municipalities, developers, and private-sector clients.
  • Lead land development, site development, commercial, municipal, and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Oversee project scope, fees, schedules, budgets, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Partner with company leadership on staffing, strategic initiatives, and market expansion.
  • Support proposals, client presentations, interviews, and pursuit strategies.
  • Collaborate with architecture, landscape architecture, and other engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Significant civil engineering experience with a focus on site and/or land development.
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams.
  • Strong project management and client relationship experience.
  • Demonstrated business development experience with the ability to generate and grow external client relationships.
  • Established relationships within public and/or private development markets are highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of grading, drainage, utilities, permitting, street improvements, and land development regulations.
  • Experience with Civil 3D and relevant hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
