Job Summary:

As an entry-level Mechanical Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a meaningful role in addressing some of the world's most critical infrastructure challenges. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse, impactful projects that support our clients' goals while fostering your professional growth and advancing the success of Black & Veatch.

In this position, potential office locations include:
Overland Park, KS Ann Arbor, MI Cary, NC Jacksonville, FL. Join our team as a Mechanical Engineer within our Systems sub-discipline, where you'll support advanced power generation projects through the design of mechanical equipment and systems used throughout the facilities we design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures
  • Equipment sizing and performance calculations
  • Development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Contributes to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work
  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluids and thermodynamic courses preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline
  • Basic industry knowledge and technology trends
  • Basic knowledge of company quality program
  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager direction, job performance and work assignments.
