The City of Oxford, Kansas, is accepting applications for:
The Oxford Police Department is seeking motivated, professional, and community-minded individuals to join our department and serve the citizens of Oxford and the surrounding area.
COMPENSATIONStarting pay is ranging from $19-$23.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
Starting pay is ranging from $15-$18.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
The full-time Patrolman position works a Panama schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. This schedule provides every other weekend as a three-day weekend, offering an excellent work-life balance while maintaining consistent coverage for the community.
Full-time Patrolmen are provided with:
- Take-home patrol vehicle for eligible officers
- Department-issued duty cell phone
- Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications
There is no residency requirement to work for the Oxford Police Department.
Patrolmen are not required to live within the City of Oxford. Qualified applicants from Oxford and surrounding communities are encouraged to apply.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPatrolmen are responsible for performing a variety of law enforcement duties, including but not limited to:
- Patrolling the City of Oxford and enforcing state statutes and local ordinances
- Responding to calls for service and emergency situations
- Conducting traffic enforcement and accident investigations
- Conducting criminal investigations and preparing reports
- Making arrests and completing related documentation
- Providing assistance to citizens and other emergency-service agencies
- Testifying in court as required
- Participating in community policing and public outreach
- Maintaining professional relationships with citizens, businesses, schools, and other community partners
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police
Applicants must meet applicable requirements for employment as a law enforcement officer in the State of Kansas and must successfully complete the department's hiring process.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Kansas law enforcement certification through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC), or eligibility to obtain certification
- Prior law enforcement experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with the public and other public-safety personnel
- Valid Kansas driver's license, or ability to obtain one
- Ability to successfully complete required background, physical, psychological, and other pre-employment screening
Applicants who are not currently KLETC certified are encouraged to apply, subject to meeting applicable Kansas certification requirements.
PART-TIME POSITIONSThe two part-time Patrolman positions provide an opportunity for qualified individuals seeking flexible law enforcement employment while assisting the department with patrol coverage and community safety.
Part-time Patrolmen may be scheduled based upon department needs and availability.
