Patient Access Liaison (PAL) – Active

As a key member of the Intake team, the PAL – Active will be responsible for ongoing monthly eligibility monitoring of active patients. When changes of insurance or benefits are identified, the PAL – Active works with patients, sales, and/or physicians to obtain new insurance or supporting clinical documentation to secure authorization. The PAL – Active advises Reimbursement Specialists of new insurance and the need for new benefits verification and prior authorization where applicable.

The PAL – Active remains the point of contact with patients, sales, and physicians, provides updates as necessary, and assists with authorization and benefits questions from patients.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Monitor Care Tend queues for active patients and review eligibility monthly. Ensure authorization is on file and there are no barriers to servicing a patient before the Pharmacy team contacts the patient to set up delivery.
  • When insurance coverage issues are identified, work with patient, sales representative, and physician to obtain necessary information for review.
  • Assist with PAL‑Pending duties as needed for coverage or additional support.
  • Ensure accurate last events and that cases are progressing as expected.
  • Perform activities timely and notify downstream teams of any potential service delays.
  • Communicate with Reimbursement Specialists and convey benefit investigation outcomes to patients regarding out‑of‑pocket costs and financial assistance options.
  • Coordinate with Nurse Coordination team for patients requiring in‑home nurse care, scheduling around prescription fulfillment and shipping.
  • Coordinate with Pharmacy operations team to ensure clinical and fulfillment resources support onboarding and ongoing fulfillment for new patient referrals.
  • Document all provider, patient, caregiver, and field team updates in the required systems of record.
  • Use referral process, volume, and workload metrics to organize workload and daily activities for successful outreach and completion of referral steps.
  • Support use of technology and innovative digital channels for internal and external stakeholder communication.
  • Provide accurate status updates and next‑step guidance to team members, referral sources, patients, and field resources.
Non‑essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Understand referral profitability and reimbursement options.
  • Support general administrative activities such as mailings, documentation development, scheduling of meetings.
  • Be flexible with overtime and occasional overnight travel by car and airplane.
  • Maintain attention to detail and serve as a resource to other departments.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and audits.
Qualifications – Required
  • 1–3 years of experience managing patient referral and prescription activities or reimbursement services in infusion or specialty therapies.
  • 1–3 years of experience providing customer service in a healthcare setting, meeting high quality standards for services and evaluating customer satisfaction.
  • Experience with electronic health records or pharmacy patient‑management systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficient in medical or pharmacy terminology, written or verbal.
  • Moderate Microsoft Office skills.
