What's the Role?
Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Business Analyst to join our Underwriting Operations team and play a lead role in shaping system and process improvements across the organization. This individual will partner closely with business leaders, underwriting teams, IT, and vendor partners to drive requirements, testing strategy, release readiness, and operational change across Dellwood's underwriting platform and related workflows. The Senior Business Analyst is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, lead complex cross-functional initiatives, and help establish strong business analysis discipline, documentation standards, and execution rigor across the team.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead complex business analysis efforts for new products, strategic enhancements, and enterprise process initiatives across underwriting operations.
- Facilitate requirements sessions with senior stakeholders and translate business needs into well-structured functional requirements, business rules, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria and support resolution planning.
- Assess downstream impacts across operational workflows, reporting, finance, integrations, forms, and other dependent processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership, vendors, and IT to prioritize work, manage risks, define scope, and oversee testing, stakeholder communications and release governance.
- Define operational metrics, reporting needs and control points; recommend and implement improvements to documentation standards, testing practices, requirement quality, and change management processes.
- Drive end-to-end UAT planning and coordination for major initiatives, including test approach, scenario coverage, defect triage support, stakeholder signoff readiness, and post-release follow-up.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Business Analysts and junior team members on requirements gathering, documentation, testing discipline, and stakeholder management.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5-8+ years of Business Analyst or related experience, with substantial experience in insurance operations or underwriting environments.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance workflows such as quote, bind, issue, endorsement, renewal, and operational support processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and manage competing priorities with limited oversight.
- Experience mentoring analysts or leading work streams without direct authority.
- Exposure to reporting, business intelligence, data validation, or downstream operational impact analysis.
- Strong analytical, facilitation, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with leadership, business stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors.
