Represents company production/environmental policy and procedures to contract growers, production personnel, and environmental personnel. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, training/developing growers and staff, monitoring performance to maximize productivity, communicating policy and procedures to growers and staff by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Ensures that objectives, standards, and initiatives of company and the Pork Industry are carried out at the service level including PQA measures and animal welfare policy.
- Acts as Coach and Trainer to the contract growers and production personnel in the respective areas. Understands all certification requirements and is responsible for getting peers and growers to the required standard for assessment.
- Enforces EMS guidelines and reports any non-compliance of these measures and guidelines to management immediately.
- Communicates all standards, policies and procedures to all contract growers and production personnel in their area. Provides all grower staff with current documentation and assures performance to defined standards. Assesses all contract growers and production personnel’s ability to complete individual processes, defined standards and certifications.
- Communicates all changes in methods and practices and helps contract growers and production personnel become motivated to accept changes.
- Develops and maintains regular two-way communication between contract growers and production personnel. Ensures that appropriate people communicate all scheduled animal movements to farms and growers and they have the appropriate swine supplies and medications.
- Provides timely, accurate reports, documentation and data to internal/external customers.
- Generates leads for developing additional growers for new sites within each respective area.
- Works with Training Manager to implement training program for contract growers, production personnel, and direct reports.
- Monitors production methods, costs and performance data for each farm relative to cost containing measures and efficient methods of production. Identifies, communicates and takes appropriate action of problem areas.
- Practices and maintains health rules and biosecurity measures as outlined by the company. Regularly inspects all animals in their area for clinical signs of disease or other health related problems and ensures required medication is used correctly and in a timely manner.
- Performs all other duties as defined by manager.
- Bachelors' degree in animal science or related field OR five-seven years' experience as a Grow/Finish farm manager.
- Must have excellent organization skills.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have excellent leadership skills.
- Must have general computer knowledge.
- Able to work as a team player.
- Demonstrated history of successful production.
- Must be able to climb over, under, and around penning.
- Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Job Requirements
- Must be available for occasional travel.
- Must be responsible for maintaining animal identification systems.
- Must have complete and thorough knowledge of all bio-security regulations.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
- Must have a valid NC Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
