  • Position: PCU Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift (Travel Assignment) – Progressive Care Unit / Step-Down Nurse
  • Location: Overland Park, KS 66213 (Kansas City area, Kansas nursing jobs, travel nurse jobs)
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (April 6, 2026 – July 6, 2026)
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (19:00 – 07:30), 36 hours per week
  • Unit: SLS Rehab:
    Step-Down / PCU (30 beds, average census 24–30)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6 (all shifts)
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 8 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
  • Floating: Regular floating between departments/units/facilities as needed
  • Charting / EMR: Epic (Epic experience required) — telemetry and Epic documentation experience preferred
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue
  • Orientation: 12 hours (plus required modules)
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,810 – $1,900 (travel nurse weekly pay)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required
  • Local Rule: Must live at least 75 miles from facility (locals not accepted)
Job Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience in PCU/step-down or acute med-surg/telemetry (telemetry nurse experience required)
  • At least 1 year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Active RN license for Kansas and Missouri or a compact RN license in hand at time of submission
  • BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Epic EMR experience required (Epic documentation and charting)
  • Required clinical skills: acute inpatient rehab, telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), blood glucose monitoring, insulin protocols, thickened liquids, Foley catheter removal, administration of blood & blood products, central line care (PICC lines), IV start and maintenance, pulse oximetry, fall risk assessment/prevention, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE
  • Two references from the past year (one supervisor level or above, one charge RN)
  • Ability to complete compliance modules and pre-employment labs as required
  • Must be able to float between departments/units/facilities as needed
  • No travel partners accepted
  • Maximum 7 days of requested time off
Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a PCU/step-down setting with a rehabilitation focus
  • Monitor and interpret telemetry, escalate changes in patient condition, and document accurately in Epic
  • Administer medications, blood products, and therapies per facility protocols
  • Perform and document comprehensive assessments, develop individualized care plans, and provide patient/family education
  • Start and maintain IVs, manage central lines/PICCs, and follow blood glucose and insulin protocols
  • Implement fall risk interventions, infection prevention measures, isolation precautions, and proper PPE use
  • Support patient mobilization, use lift equipment, and assist with rehabilitation techniques and discharge planning
  • Float between units/departments as needed to meet facility and patient care needs
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and case management
