Oncology RNs provide comprehensive cancer services from diagnosis to treatment and survivorship care. On this unit, you will care for patients with hematological malignancies who are receiving bone marrow transplants. • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient, following standards of care and disease specific protocols.
• Plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
• Provide direct nursing care and supervise non‑licensed nursing staff within the RN’s scope of practice and in accordance with established policies.
• Provide education and emotional support appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstance and incorporate patient/family teaching into all aspects of nursing practice.
• Provide specialized care including:

• Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration and management, including investigational protocols
• Transfusion of blood, platelets and fresh frozen plasma
• Management of patients with radiation implants, central venous access devices and spinal drains
• Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration
• Thoracentesis and paracentesis
• Epidural and intrathecal analgesia

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 6 months of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment start date (RN)
• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Registered Nurse Diploma
• ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy
• Oncology Immunotherapy Administration
