Oncology RNs provide comprehensive cancer services from diagnosis to treatment and survivorship care. On this unit, you will care for patients with hematological malignancies who are receiving bone marrow transplants. Whatyou will do in this role:
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient, following standards of care and disease specific protocols.
- Plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
- Provide direct nursing care and supervise non‑licensed nursing staff within the RN’s scope of practice and in accordance with established policies.
- Provide education and emotional support appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstance and incorporate patient/family teaching into all aspects of nursing practice.
- Provide specialized care including:
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration and management, including investigational protocols
- Transfusion of blood, platelets and fresh frozen plasma
- Management of patients with radiation implants, central venous access devices and spinal drains
- Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration
- Thoracentesis and paracentesis
- Epidural and intrathecal analgesia
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment start date (RN)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Nurse Diploma
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy
- Oncology Immunotherapy Administration
