Position: QA Specialist - Nuclear Job Details | Black & Veatch Family of Companies

Opportunity

This role is responsible for supporting Project Quality Managers and/or auditors with their daily tasks, providing a foundational role for career development within the quality assurance discipline.

Team

As part of BV Operations, your skills will be aligned to projects that support our three market sectors:
Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. You will work on projects ranging from small community improvements to large-scale mega projects worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn the Black & Veatch Quality Management System (QMS) including policies, manuals, procedures, and best practices.
  • Apply the QMS to daily support activities.
  • Support independent internal and external quality audits and assessments.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of projects (QA checks) to applicable governance to ensure quality of work.
  • Learn how to apply and support project needs with QMS tools such as Corrective Action Requests, Preventive Action Requests, Nonconformance Reports, Deviations, Process Requirements Engagement Program (PREP), and Lessons Learned.
  • Support quality-related process improvement activities or quality department initiatives.
  • Gather information and analyze performance of assigned processes and projects.
  • Support implementation of project quality process changes, including creating or revising Division QMS documents.
  • Typically interface with multiple project teams and professionals simultaneously.
  • Periodic travel will be required.
  • Individual contributor with no direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of principles, practices, techniques, and theories of quality processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic knowledge of financial measures as well as related principles and application.
  • Basic understanding of industrial design and construction.
  • Ability to understand instructions; verbal, numeric, and spatial aptitudes; perception of detail in verbal or tabular materials; analytic, precise, and problem solving.
  • Ability to manage small development projects (resources, scope, schedule, results, and risk).
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001:2015 principles.
  • Demonstrates intermediate process management, conflict management, total work systems, and written communications.
Minimum Qualifications

4‑year degree in Management or Business. Minimum 5‑8 years of experience specifically in the development and implementation of effective Quality Compliance Audits. For a Nuclear Position: 5 years of total experience in nuclear QA oversight. Current applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screening, and motor‑vehicle records search.

Certifications

ASQ Certified Auditor training certification:
Certified Quality Auditor; active member of American Society for Quality (desired).

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Normal office environment; may include heavy industrial construction exposure. Occasional physical work conditions: capable of walking 5 miles and climbing stairs to 300-foot height; walking, climbing stairs, ladders, moving in/out of vehicles; lifting or moving up to 25 pounds; supplier or construction site environment has frequent exposure to vibration and loud noise, and occasional exposure to airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, slippery uneven walking surfaces, and risk of electrical shock.
