Role Description The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a full-time, on-site role located in Overland Park, KS. This role is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance on city buildings, facilities, and related systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Daily tasks may include inspecting and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, completing basic carpentry and painting work, and responding to maintenance requests and service tickets.

The technician will troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs, maintain accurate maintenance records, and follow all safety procedures and city standards. The role may also assist with seasonal projects, emergency repairs, and facility upgrades as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in general building maintenance, including basic carpentry, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, including troubleshooting and routine service.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely, read technical manuals, and follow maintenance schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills for handling multiple work orders.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and vendors.
  • Commitment to safety practices, adherence to city policies, and attention to detail in documentation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in building trades or maintenance is beneficial.
  • Previous facilities or building maintenance experience in a municipal, commercial, or institutional setting is preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for operating city vehicles, as required.
