Your specific responsibilities:

Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees' work. Has the authority to effectively recommend the hiring, transferring, suspension, layoff, recalls, promotions, discharges, assignments, rewards, or disciplinary actions for subordinate employees. Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff. Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.

Motivates, trains, coaches and guides subordinate employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed while conducting work activities. Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff to ensure completion of routine and preventative maintenance of automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment and small machines. Recommends production planning, scheduling and control methods. Ensures safe work practices are adhered to by shop personnel.

Assigns work based on information available from the operator of the disabled equipment regarding the nature of the problem; knowledge of the capabilities of the repair personnel; determination of priorities based on knowledge of department activities and knowledge of general equipment maintenance practices. Ensures Quality Assurance Review (QAR) requirements are followed and met each year. Adjusts operations as needed based off of yearly QAR results.

Oversees crews performing maintenance activities (optional duty if overseeing contracted employees). Oversees a large vehicular fleet of automotive and heavy equipment for developing a maintenance program for the Operations center as well as for the servicing and repairing of transient Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) vehicles as necessary. Duties include directing periodic inspections of equipment to ensure that it is properly maintained in a good state of repair and initiating and preparing periodic reports of maintenance costs.

Reports include the number of vehicles repaired and types of equipment which will be needed in order to conduct an effective maintenance program. Controls operation of the fuel service facilities. Monitors fuel conservation and fuel allotment to other state agencies. Prepares and maintains inventory and supply records and initiates purchase requisitions. Oversees the Shop and Warehouse. Ensures the warehouse is maintained according to policies and procedures.

Reviews and ensures warehouse commodities are purchased and kept stocked as needed. Reviews and originates shop work orders, P-Card purchases, requisitions, local charge accounts, etc. Evaluates equipment for sale, trade or junk and submits proper forms. Assists in conducting and making preparations for the sale of equipment. Assists and directs repair personnel in solving difficult repair problems which may also involve consultation with outside sources.
