City Clerk/Director of Finance

The City of Wewoka is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve in the dual role of City Clerk / Director of Finance. This position combines statutory municipal clerk responsibilities with leadership and oversight of the City’s financial operations.

• As City Clerk, the position prepares City Council agendas and minutes, maintains official municipal records, coordinates public notices, processes open records requests, assists with municipal elections, and helps ensure compliance with state and local requirements.
• As Director of Finance, the position oversees accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll reconciliation, purchasing, audits, cash management, and other financial operations of the City. The successful candidate will work closely with the City Manager, department directors, auditors, and other financial professionals to promote accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and responsible management of public funds.

• The City is specifically seeking a candidate with formal accounting education or training and extensive professional experience in accounting, governmental finance, budgeting, or financial management.
• A degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. Municipal or governmental accounting experience is highly desirable.
• The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities.
