Provides assistance and supervision for children during recess to ensure a positive and safe environment.

• Supervises students at recess and maintains a safe and harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
• Circulates through the recess area and assists students as needed.
• Assists students as they transition to and from recess in an orderly fashion.
• Ensures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
• Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
• Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
• Provides assistance for students requiring additional educational guidance.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the supervisor immediately.
• Represents the school and the district professionally in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
• Assists with special projects.
• All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

• Education and/or
  
  Experience:
  
  Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Generally at least one year of experience working with and around children.

• Ability to follow district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills with faculty, staff, administrators and students. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Effective listening skills.

• Ability to read and interpret general written instructions in English. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and school personnel.
• Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Frequent standing and walking for extended periods; requires physical stamina appropriate for a recess environment.

• Typical recess environment with noise levels that may range from moderate to loud during parts of the shift. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Weather conditions will vary.
