Salary Range:$50,000.00 - $PARKS & RECREATION SUPERVISOR DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK Parks & Recreation Supervisor is a professional, supervisory, and administrative position under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing various tasks including difficult and complex technical and administrative support related to all youth and adult programs and activities coordinated by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Further administrative support regarding coordination of aquatic facilities, rental facilities also maintenance and repair of all facilities and open spaces. ESSENTIAL EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Director.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of recreational programs for all ages, through a variety of service delivery methods, including but not limited to: athletics, fitness and wellness, cultural arts, camps, education, special needs, and special events. This includes all aspects including public information, marketing, operating materials and supplies, facilities and room scheduling, staffing, registration, food, beverages, games, prizes, and entertainment.
• Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for department functions and programs; recommends, within Departmental and City policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
• Assumes overall management responsibility for the assigned parks, facilities, and open space functions and activities, including programming, staffing, and maintenance of parks and recreation systems, facilities, and open space areas.
• Identifies grant opportunities; develops and prepares grant proposals; manages grants.
• Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; works with employees on performance issues; responds to staff questions and concerns; makes discipline recommendations to the Assistant Director.
• Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement and reviews with the Assistant Director; directs the implementation of improvements.
• Develops and administers policies and procedures such as procedure guidelines, design standards, and standard plans and specifications while ensuring that repair and maintenance, financial, regulatory, and legal requirements are met.
• Oversees and inspects the work performed by vendors and contractors; ensures that work product is compliant with contract provisions, departmental rules and standards, and legal and regulatory requirements.
• Prepares, reviews, and completes various reports, for department related documentation and correspondence.
• Represents the department with other City departments and outside agencies.
• Provides staff support to Part-time and Full-time employees.
• Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of parks and recreation and/or facilities maintenance and operations; researches emerging products, enhancements, and trends and their applicability to Departmental needs.
• Receives, investigates, and responds to problems and complaints from citizens, other department representatives, and outside agencies in a professional manner; identifies and reports findings and takes necessary corrective action.
