Job Overview

Responsibilities- Interview applicants to determine the type of license or identification required; review, inspect, and verify the legality of qualifying documents; verify identity and determine eligibility for and type of driver’s license or identification card.
- Advise applicants on reasons an application cannot be accepted and on procedures to resolve disqualifying issues, including providing expert testimony on medical disqualifications.
- Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicants based on state and federal standards; determine requirements for waivers or restrictions to driving privileges; advise on waiver application procedures or additional evaluation requirements.
- Conduct in-depth vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles for required tests and assess operators' knowledge and ability to safely use required systems and equipment.
- Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests as appropriate; evaluate applicant performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and comply with existing state and federal laws; determine areas of improvement and advise the applicant.
- Establish driver’s license records while maintaining the confidentiality and security of information in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence to prepare for potential legal action on fraudulent applications.
- Respond to inquiries from motor license agents, verify applicant identity, provide information on specific laws and procedures to law enforcement agencies and the general public, and make recommendations on changes in driver’s license laws, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct formal and informal interviews, hearings, and investigations concerning all aspects of driver’s license suspensions, revocations, restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, and other related issues; review accident reports and related information; render final decisions on appropriate actions; issue set‑aside or stay orders, modification orders, and temporary licenses; complete other required forms and documents.

Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, and the issuance of driver’s licenses; knowledge of various types of commercial vehicles, related safety and operating equipment, licensing requirements; knowledge of different types of driver’s licenses; and knowledge of interviewing principles and practices.
Ability to conduct interviews; inspect and evaluate motor vehicles and related equipment; operate all types of motor vehicles; administer written and performance tests; determine authenticity of identification documents to verify that applicants are legally within the United States and the state of Oklahoma; communicate effectively; operate computers; and type accurately.
Education & ExperienceThe preferred minimum qualifications for this position are:
- A bachelor's degree in any field
- Or four (4) years of technical clerical office work
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preference may be given to candidates who:
- Have previous customer service experience.
- Have familiarity with DMV processes and procedures.
- Are proficient in typing at least 50 words per minute with minimal errors.
This is a part‑time position limited to a maximum of 24 hours per week. Part‑time employees may not exceed 999 hours each year. Selected candidates may be required to work on Saturdays, based on the needs of the agency.
