The primary function of a Seamer/Unloader is to prepare raw glass for the heat treating furnace by seaming chips, sharks teeth, and other edge defects from glass. Unloads the heat treated glass from the furnace, inspects and sorts to frames, racks, or packing cases as required, using proper packing materials.

• 1. Stages glass to be seamed to provide production and maximum batch utilization.
• 2. Inspects individual lites of glass for quality deviations and edge defects and notifies the production line lead accordingly.
• 3. Positions glass on seaming table identifies air side and places it facing up if, glass is to be coated. Obtains assistance for proper handling of large lites or uses manipulator.
• 4. Inspects edgework and determines amount of seaming necessary to ensure glass will survive tempering process.
• 5. Arranges A-frames by unload area to insure efficient operation.
• 6. Pulls up empty A-frames to stage for unloading.
• 7. Moves full A-frames to their proper locations.
• 8. Bands or stretch wraps completed frames.
• 9. Works with furnace operator, recorder, and quality control to perform required inspections of the glass and inspects glass for quality defects.
• 10. Selects and places proper packing material on A-frames as needed.
• 11. Communicates with recorder and sorts glass from unload table to proper A-frame or box.
• 12. Obtains assistance for proper handling of large glass sizes or uses manipulator.
• 13. Promptly responds to breakage in quench and clears the quench of broken glass before the next cycle.
• 14. Performs duties in accordance with the Business Process Documentation.
• 15. Participates in Viracon’s Continuous Improvement efforts by understanding his/her team’s performance and actively implementing and supporting process improvements.

• 1. Maintains a neat and orderly work area throughout the workday.
• 2. Cleans and prepares frame by removing old paperwork, tags, etc.
• 3. Maintain and effective working relationship with other department employees.
• 4. May perform reasonably similar or related duties as instructed.

• 1. High school diploma or equivalent GED preferred but not required.
• 2. Ability to read and understand work instructions (English).
• 3. Mathematical skills as related to measurements.
• 4. Familiar with operating power tools.
• 5. Ability to take supervision.
• 6. Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team member.
