Back-End Mechanic | 4 On 4 Off | 6P - 6A | Starting Wage $32.63

Position Overview

Ensure that all back end equipment from the end of the washer/dryer through the pallet staging area is maintained and operating to produce cans that meet quality specifications.

• Perform set‑up, maintenance, and efficient operation of flangers, beaders, light testers, lacquer spray machines, IBOs, palletizers, and strappers.
• Maintain and set‑up back‑end conveying systems, including single filers and can transfer apparatus.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and document can specifications such as flanged height, factory finished height, flange width & angle, axial load, panel resistance, bead depth, rolling bead diameter, placement, plug diameter, and oven temperature checks.
• Perform visual checks to ensure compliance with standards and take corrective action when problems are identified.
• Complete necessary paperwork and documentation, including process check sheets, logbooks, and maintenance records.
• Conduct equipment set‑up evaluations (ESE) and make proper adjustments as needed.
• Assist in other areas of the plant to maintain smooth can flow.
• Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and follow proper safety procedures and work practices.
• Perform other job‑related tasks as required.

• Advanced mechanical skills, including working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and precision measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
• Understanding of the manufacturing process of cans and ends, as well as the equipment and quality specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude on all can and end‑making equipment in the plant, depending on the primary area of responsibility assigned.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems, gauges, tools, and equipment.
• Capability to safely operate a production forklift.
• Strong understanding of applicable safety regulations, reinforcing a culture where safety is the top priority.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with all team members.

• Strong problem‑solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach.
• Ability to work independently or with a team.
• Capability to generate new solutions and think outside the box.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Team Member may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Generally working in a plant environment, with occasional duties inside a typical office setting. The Team Member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicular traffic, a wide range of temperatures, and high noise levels.
