Locums – Owatonna, Minnesota, Hospitalist Job

Join a small rural hospital in Owatonna, Minnesota, providing overnight Hospitalist coverage in a solo provider setting. This locums opportunity is ideal for experienced Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants who are comfortable practicing independently while managing admissions, cross-coverage, emergency responses, and inpatient care.

Assignment Details

  • Start Date:

    ASAP
  • Contract Length: 6 months, option to extend

Coverage Need

  • PRN coverage
  • Local or drive-in candidates highly preferred

IMLC

  • Willing to license through IMLC only

Position Highlights

    Shift Type:

    • 24-hour call shifts

    Standard Shift:

    • 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM

    Coverage Need:

    • PRN as needed

    Holiday Requirement:

    Candidates must be available for at least one of the following holiday coverage periods:

    Option 1:

    • Christmas Eve (12/24/2026)
    • Christmas Day (12/25/2026)
    • Weekend following Christmas (12/26/2026 – 12/27/2026)

    Option 2:

    • New Year's Eve (12/31/2026)
    • New Year's Day (1/1/2027)
    • Weekend following New Year's (1/2/2027 – 1/3/2027)

    Clinical Details & Responsibilities

    Practice Setting:

    • Hospital

    Hospital Information:

    • Licensed for 43 beds
    • 26 Med Surg/SCU beds

    Patient Population:

    • Adult and geriatric patients
    • Aging population with multiple comorbidities

    Average Daily Volume:

    • Approximately 10 patients per day
    • 2–3 SCU patients

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Admissions
    • Cross-coverage
    • Emergency response calls
    • Code response
    • Inpatient management

    Night Coverage:

    • No overnight rounding required
    • Focus on admissions, cross-coverage, and emergency response needs

    Special Procedures:

    • No procedural requirements beyond standard Hospital Medicine responsibilities
    • Must be comfortable responding to codes

    Support & Technology

    EMR:
    Epic

    Support Staff:

    • Emergency Department physicians in-house
    • Nursing staff
    • Telemedicine subspecialty support
    • On-call specialty coverage

    Requirements

    • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Required
    • Board Certified Hospitalist – Required
    • Active Minnesota License – Required
    • DEA Registration – Required
    • ACLS Certification – Required
    • Minimum 2 years of Hospital Medicine experience – Required
    • Must be comfortable practicing independently in a solo provider environment
    • High-functioning provider required
