  • Salary: 1A Grade 3 – $17.43/hr to $19.11/hr (Critical Need Stipend $3.50/hr, Early Childhood Instructional Assistant Stipend $1.00/hr)
  • Working Calendar: 187 days / 7.0 hours per day

Early Childhood Program Overview

The Early Childhood staff are dedicated and focused on providing students with a great start to their school careers. They prepare students for transitioning into elementary school and build confidence and skills in each child for personal success and school readiness. Strong parent involvement and participation are encouraged, fostered, and appreciated in all our programs. The benefits to both children and families are long‑lasting.

Research indicates that children attending Early Childhood programs have greater success in school.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the supervising teacher or principal, the instructional assistant participates as an integral member of the instructional program: tutoring students, assisting in documenting pupil progress, preparing and organizing materials and equipment, and/or instructing. Also assists bus drivers in supervising, loading, and unloading students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Passing score on the Kentucky Para‑educator Assessment or 48 college semester hours.
  • If your highest education is High School or GED, you must take and pass the Kentucky Para‑educator Assessment.
  • Demonstrated competent language skills, including the ability to read and understand the meanings of words and ideas and to use them effectively.
  • Successful experience working with children, individually or in groups.
  • Program‑specific certifications/training.
  • All required trainings completed within 90 days of employment, including the required bus monitoring training.
