Job Summary:
Owensboro Community and Technical College is seeking applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position as Medical Assisting Instructor/Program Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this role is to teach core courses within OCTC’s Medical Assisting (MA) Program, ensuring alignment with CAAHEP accreditation standards. Key duties include program development, coordination, instruction, assessment, and evaluation. This position contributes to the College’s mission by providing students with the academic, technical, and career-focused knowledge necessary to succeed in the high-demand field of medical assisting.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
The duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the Medical Assisting (MA) program, including instruction, course development, adjunct faculty recruitment, budget oversight, and student achievement assessment.
  • Teach MA courses aligned with established learning outcomes and ensure compliance with SACSCOC and CAAHEP standards, including annual Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), Program Outcomes (POs), and program review.
  • Collaborate with Success Coaches to support student academic progress and career planning.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate competency-based curricula that strengthen applied learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, employability, and occupational skills.
  • Coordinate clinical placements, including site selection, supervision, and student performance evaluation.
  • Engage in active student recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Partner with business and industry to align curriculum, expand internship opportunities, and support program advisement.
  • Participate in faculty development and college and community engagement aligned with OCTC’s mission.
  • Represent the MA program to community partners, professional organizations, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends and issues in medical assisting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in healthcare and three (3) years of related work experience or equivalent.
  • Credentialed in good standing in medical assisting;
  • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of related experience is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) requires the following:
  • Be credentialed in good standing in medical assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or under International Organization for Standardization (ISO);
  • Have medical or allied health education or training;
  • Have experience related to the profession of medical assisting; and
  • Have documented education in instructional methodology.
