Instructional Assistant II – Sp Ed Aide (6.5 hours/day; 181 days/year)
Daviess County School District, Tamarack Elementary School – Owensboro, Kentucky
Job DescriptionAssist teachers in designated instructional, non‑instructional, management, and clerical tasks. Activities are determined by student needs. Aides may conduct community‑based instruction and classroom activities with appropriate direction and supervision.
Responsibilities- Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom activities.
- Arrive on time, prepared, and maintain good attendance.
- Attend and complete professional development meetings.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, staff, and community.
- Conduct classroom or community instruction under teacher supervision.
- Assist in administering classroom assessments for instructional planning.
- Assist in adaptive physical education and fine/gross motor activities.
- Assist children with self‑care activities such as feeding, toileting, and diapering.
- Tutor individually and in small groups without direct supervision.
- Assist in reviewing home and seat‑work activities.
- Assist children with oral and written communication, make‑up work, and hands‑on activities.
- Observe and record student behavior; support behavior‑management systems.
- Participate in reading and storytelling activities.
- Help each child develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically at their own pace.
- Carry out duties with patience, kindness, professionalism, and empathy.
- Collect and prepare materials; manage displays and teaching centers.
- Record written materials for children with visual or physical disabilities.
- Help children resolve conflicts with peers.
- Implement safety measures and assist students when necessary.
- Use technology and modern office equipment.
- Assist in classroom organization and management.
- Assist students with bus behavior when on a special‑education bus; assist on field trips.
- Assist certified persons in implementing policies and regulations governing student conduct.
- Act in accordance with bylaws, policies, and applicable laws.
- Administer health services, including medication, medical equipment, and clinical procedures (training provided).
- Demonstrate loyalty and dedication to the goals of Daviess County Public Schools.
- High‑school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree, or 48 college credit hours, or pass a state–approved test.
- Capable of working with students who may have physical, intellectual, emotional, and/or behavioral exceptionalities.
- Basic computer skills (mouse, keyboard, email, websites).
- Classroom‑management techniques.
- Documentation and record‑keeping techniques.
- Communication skills.
- Team‑work cooperation.
- Knowledge of assigned program policies and objectives.
Year‑to‑year contract; participation in Kentucky Public Pension Authority (KPPA).
