Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – Next Generation Products
As a premier NPI, NGP1 is fast paced and setting new standards for Edison Works. The Program Mechanical Design team is a large organization with multiple sub‑teams. This role is aligned to a sub‑team spanning multiple commodities and design phases, including cost‑out design, hardware delivery, test, certification/qualification, and technical publications. This role operates in a highly cross‑functional environment, enabling rapid learning and product maturation, and will help lead the charge on FLIGHT DECK adoption within Edison Works, applying lean principles to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost across the NPI lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned components for advanced military products.
- Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
- Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule and budget constraints.
- Demonstrate systems‑thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
- Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations that require technical knowledge and judgment.
- Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
- Develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a mechanical design or mechanical analysis engineering position.
- U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship required. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold U.S. Government Security Clearance.
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems, document, plan, market, and execute programs, and established project management skills.
- Team‑oriented, growth‑driven, and people‑savvy: demonstrates humility and a team‑first mindset, shows strong drive and ownership to continuously improve outcomes, and brings high interpersonal awareness to communicate effectively, build trust, and collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
- Must hold or be eligible for a U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship (or lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee status).
- The role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information; employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove U.S. Person status.
