Oversees GIS activities and resources, supervising GIS staff and providing hands-on technical support as needed. The role manages GIS production operations, including workflow, scheduling, priorities, and product quality, while planning, organizing, and enhancing GIS systems and applications. Starting pay $95,000 annually. Provided benefits include but are not limited to, health insurance, group life insurance, wellness program, and CERS retirement administered by the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority.

Paid time off includes vacation, sick time, and holidays (for eligible employees).

Examples of Duties

Manager works with user departments to identify needs, coordinates contracts with GIS hardware, software, and data providers, assists GIS staff with projects and develops project schedules that support citywide operations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining expert knowledge of GIS technologies and related fields, translating technical information for leadership, evaluating and improving operating procedures, monitoring workload to ensure efficient service delivery, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, addressing issues and requests, preparing reports and presentations, and assisting with long range planning, objectives, and departmental budgeting.

Qualifications

Qualifications required at the time of application include a bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, planning, civil engineering (preferably with coursework in cartography) or another closely related field, a minimum of six years of GIS-related experience, including experience with Esri GIS technologies, a valid driver’s license, and experience working with office and computer equipment.
