Job Summary

The Certified Nurse Aide (SRNA or CNA) is responsible for delivering routine nursing care to residents under the direction of the charge nurse on duty. The Certified Nurse Aide (SRNA or CNA) will also provide a safe and dignified environment for all assigned residents in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provides individualized attention to promote the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
  • Is knowledgeable of the individualized care plan and supports residents according to their care plan; provides information and observations to the charge nurse or care planning staff.
  • Attends to residents’ needs, including grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, ROM, communication, and other care requirements.
  • Maintains residents’ comfort, privacy and dignity; interacts warmly to promote a caring environment.
  • Understands residents’ rights, including freedom from restraints and abuse; reports incidents or evidence of rights violations promptly.
  • Maintains a safe, neat environment; reports environmental deficiencies to the charge nurse.
  • Monitors residents for changes in condition or behavior and reports to licensed nursing personnel.
  • Provides care to maintain skin integrity and prevent ulcers by turning, repositioning immobile residents and applying moisturizers.
  • Answers call bells promptly and courteously.
  • Performs tasks assigned by the charge nurse, including checking vital signs, weighing residents, applying creams/ointments and collecting specimens.
  • Assists with admission orientation and transfers.
  • Lifts, moves and transports residents using proper body mechanics or lifting devices.
  • Assists residents with appointments and participates in activities as directed.
  • Uses supplies efficiently and follows charge procedures for resident charge items.
  • Completes nursing assistant records in accordance with department policies.
  • Follows safety and infection control procedures, including hand hygiene and appropriate use of gloves.
  • Walks extensively within the unit to perform rounds and transport residents.
  • Promotes a homelike environment and responds to inquiries within policy time frames.
