Position Overview:The Unit Manager is responsible for directing the entire operation of a nursing unit in a long-term community. The UM collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and families to create individualized care plans, maintain a supportive environment, and foster a culture of empathy, purpose, and meaningful engagement for residents living with various forms of dementia.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating care team members.
- Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care issues/concerns for the unit.
- Manage area of responsibility with the goal of achieving and maintaining the highest quality of care possible.
- Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff members.
- Contact physicians as needed/necessary and ensure physician interventions are timely and appropriate.
- Review staffing patterns and census of nursing units and reassign personnel when necessary to ensure staffing meets resident needs and budgetary controls.
- Monitor the clinical operations of the unit and resident’s conditions and ensure that appropriate and quality care is administered.
- Obtain medications, supplies and medical records needed to provide safe, efficient, and therapeutic care to residents on a continuing basis.
- Assist in the orientation of new personnel, monitoring their skills and guides and observe care team members that may need assistance with procedures.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as an LPN or RN in the state employed; license must be active, valid, and in good standing.
- Valid CPR teaching certificate preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of one (2) year’s work experience with dementia or Alzheimer's residents, or both, within the past five (5) years.
