BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This position performs tasks which involve specified nursing care for patients delegated by and performed under the direction of a Nursing Supervisor.

  High School Diploma/GED required.
• License/Certification

  Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required.
• Minimum
  
  Work Experience:
  
  Nurse assistant training and/or 3 months experience preferred.
• Pediatric experience preferred.

• Effective communication skills, ability to meet the demands of an active position.

• Conduct a thorough health assessment of patients and record information accurately.
• Report unusual data to nursing supervisor or provider in a timely manner.
• Assess and identify patient symptoms and problems.
• Administer medications using various methods within scope of practice (e.g., orally, IM).
• Deliver patient care and education with understanding of identified or potential physiological and developmental problems, support and educational needs, learning level of families, and any present or potential environmental problems.
• Obtain and handle specimens according to policy.
• Adhere to infection control guidelines and appropriate use of PPE.
• Assist provider in performing appropriate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within scope of practice.
• Assist in developing and updating nursing plan for patient.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patient and families.
• Provide the family or caregiver with education to address health promotion and a safe environment, including healthy lifestyles, risk‑reducing behaviors, developmental needs, and normal/age‑specific care and safety.
• Correctly evaluate and thoroughly document response of the patient to treatment and interventions.
• Deliver patient care while ensuring meeting quality management goals.
• Acquire and maintain clinical competencies through return demonstration or successful completion of computer‑based learning modules.
• Document completed work in compliance with all departmental guidelines promptly, thoroughly and accurately.
• Interact with patients and families in a caring and professional manner to incorporate child and family centered care.
• Treat patients with respect, creating a comfortable environment that reduces their fear.
• Effectively and professionally interact and collaborate with other providers of patient care.
• Explain procedures and medications in a manner that the patient or family understands.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Assist with maintaining a safe, clean and orderly clinical and patient care area environment.
• Willingly assume all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
• Promptly, thoroughly and accurately record applicable patient charges to ensure appropriate billing of services.
• Utilize hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably, consistently optimizing time efficiently and effectively, and serving as a role model/resource for others.
• Respect hospital resources, avoiding misuse, abuse or waste as required by Lean Principles.
• Stock supplies and equipment proactively and/or as directed to help team members provide efficient patient care.

Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10‑20 lbs occasionally, and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
