The Route Sales Representative is responsible for selling and merchandising a line of quality products at local stores. The role includes driving a Smithfield Foods box truck and working Monday through Friday, 40 to 45 hours a week with the possibility of occasional Saturday or Holiday work.
Key Responsibilities- Quote prices and credit terms and prepare sales invoices for orders obtained.
- Deliver products to customers, stock retail cases, and rotate inventory as required.
- Prepare end‑of‑day reports of business transactions and inform local management of any unresolved issues or opportunities.
- Maintain daily Department of Transportation records and provide them to local management as required.
- Maintain daily truck inventory and conduct weekly physical inventory, reporting any variations to local management.
- Drive to assigned locations.
- Use equipment (e.g., carts, pallets) to unload products and move them throughout the store.
- Rotate products, remove defective and out‑of‑date items, and process returns and credits with receivers.
- Flexibility: adapt to changing situations, new tasks and priorities as they occur.
- Customer Focus: help customers find what they need and deliver service that exceeds expectations.
- Attention to Detail: meticulous checking of dates on merchandise, arranging products, and accurate completion of daily paperwork such as DOT logs.
- Communication: work closely with other Smithfield Foods team members and communicate regularly.
- Tech Savvy: comfortable using multiple technology devices each day to accomplish goals.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Minimum of 6 months experience in route sales, grocery, warehousing, or delivery (required).
- Valid Driver’s License required; a valid CDL‑B Driver’s License will be required within 90 days of start date.
- Must be 21 years of age or older to comply with federal regulations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal or schedule form.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team‑oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
- This work is physically demanding and may require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 60 lbs, or lifting of objects using mechanical assistance.
