JOB SUMMARY

The Security Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of all guests, team members, and company property at Owensboro Racing & Gaming. This position is responsible for monitoring surveillance systems, patrolling assigned areas, and responding to incidents and emergencies in a professional and timely manner. The ideal candidate will be observant, calm under pressure, and committed to enforcing security procedures, policies, and applicable state gaming laws to maintain a secure and welcoming environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively monitor surveillance systems and conduct routine patrols of assigned areas to ensure a secure and safe environment throughout the facility.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to alarms, disturbances, or emergencies in accordance with established security protocols.
  • Perform regular walkthroughs to identify safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or potential security breaches, reporting findings promptly.
  • Enforce company policies, property rules, and Kentucky state gaming regulations to ensure compliance and maintain order.
  • Assist guests and team members with inquiries, directions, or concerns in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Accurately document incidents, observations, and actions taken in written reports and electronic logs.
  • Work cooperatively with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services when assistance is required.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to new or less experienced security personnel as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by security leadership or management to support operational needs.
REQUIRED

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to apply.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with guests, employees, and emergency personnel.
  • Keen observational skills and situational awareness to identify and address potential safety or security concerns.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Capacity to follow detailed procedures and protocols with accuracy and consistency.
  • Demonstrated integrity and the ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and the ability to learn and operate surveillance and security software.
  • Must be physically able to patrol large areas on foot and respond quickly to incidents.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Kentucky gaming/racing license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with surveillance equipment, patrol procedures, and emergency response protocols is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to de‑escalate tense situations calmly and professionally.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Kentucky gaming/racing license.
  • Training or certification in CPR, First Aid, or other emergency response procedures is beneficial but not required.
