Occupational SummaryThe Student Success Coach (SSC) serves as the primary point of contact for students from orientation through graduation, providing proactive, holistic, and data‑informed support that promotes persistence, retention, and timely graduation. The SSC builds sustained relationships with students, expands traditional advising through structured outreach, early‑alert intervention, milestone coaching, and coordinated support services, aligning with Baker College’s Student‑First Philosophy and institutional goals related to persistence, equity, and completion.
Roleand Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary success contact for an assigned caseload of students from orientation through graduation.
- Provide comprehensive academic advising regarding degree requirements, academic standing, course selection, institutional policies, and program progression.
- Conduct structured and proactive outreach at key academic milestones, including onboarding, early term check‑ins, mid‑term progress points, registration periods, and pre‑graduation reviews.
- Utilize predictive analytics, student success technologies, and early‑alert systems to identify risk indicators and initiate timely intervention.
- Coach students on academic habits, time management, goal‑setting, accountability, and strategies that support sustained academic momentum.
- Monitor student progress and intervene when barriers to persistence arise.
- Coordinate referrals and collaborate with campus partners—including faculty, financial aid, student accounts, accessibility services, tutoring, and other support services.
- Empower students to build meaningful connections within Baker College, including academic departments, campus life, and co‑curricular engagement opportunities.
- Support retention and re‑enrollment initiatives, including outreach to stop‑out and at‑risk students.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all student interactions in institutional systems.
- Participate in orientations, registration campaigns, and student‑success initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to remove unnecessary barriers to degree progress and support equitable student outcomes.
- Support highly visible student populations, including first‑generation students, adult learners, online learners, transfer students, and student‑athletes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, academic advising, success coaching, student engagement, or related higher‑education roles.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Bilingual candidates highly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of holistic and proactive student‑support models aligned with NACADA core competencies.
- Ability to interpret and apply academic policies, program requirements, and institutional procedures.
- Experience utilizing student success technology platforms, case‑management tools, and data‑informed outreach strategies.
- Ability to coach students individually and in group settings on complex academic and personal success matters.
- Strong ability to identify risk factors and intervene appropriately using sound judgment.
- Demonstrated multicultural competence and ability to support diverse student populations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with exceptional customer service orientation.
- Ability to build trust‑based, sustained relationships with students.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, athletics staff, and cross‑functional campus partners.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment.
