Job Summary

Works cooperatively with the Director of Ancillary Services and dietary management staff to manage and direct all inpatient nutritional services, committees, department meetings, and other clinical responsibilities. Responsible for establishing and monitoring continuous quality improvement issues per JACHO, state and federal regulations. Provides nutritional instruction to patients and/or significant others and documents appropriately in the patient’s medical record. Coordinates care with appropriate staff and physicians in a multi‑disciplinary approach.

Strives for superior performance by consistently delivering a product or service that contributes to the patient and family experience and demonstrates patient and family centered care.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director of Ancillary Services to formulate all clinical quality improvement (CQI) programs annually, monitor, collect and summarize CQI data, present findings at quarterly meetings, and develop action plans for areas not meeting departmental or regulatory expectations.
  • Coordinate with the Outpatient Dietitian and all quality assurance meetings, including the Quality Assurance Review Committee and Dietary Technician/Supervisor meetings.
  • Participate in strategic planning with the Director of Ancillary Services for the advancement and coordination of all inpatient nutrition services.
  • Support the organization’s vision, mission and values by participating in community speaking engagements when necessary.
  • Assume Long‑Term‑Care responsibilities.
  • Prioritize and organize all activities to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency per department and patient needs.
  • Serve as an active member on various committees and subcommittees such as Patient Education, Wound and Skin, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Oncology, Tumor Board, and Cancer committees.
  • Ensure adequate staffing in the patient service area to meet clinical and budgetary expectations.
  • Demonstrate competency and skills necessary to provide age‑specific care for patients served.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities and provide guidance to the Dietary Department in the absence of the Dietary Manager.
  • Develop nutritional formulary lists with the Outpatient Dietitian.
  • Review, develop and recommend, with the Outpatient Dietitian, all nutritional support materials, including the Dietary Nutrition Manual and patient instructional materials, updating them as necessary.
  • Develop, review and modify policy, procedures and operating instructions as required.
  • Help develop menus and recipes based on sound nutrition principles that meet established dietary guidelines, medical staff and patient expectations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and support the hospital’s mission, vision, values, standards, policies, procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards and code of ethical behavior.
Departmental and Additional

Job Responsibilities
  • Attend care conferences or delegate as necessary.
  • Train food service supervisors in all clinical and patient service areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition from an accredited institution.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Experience
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (required). Registry‑eligible applicants may be considered if registration testing occurs within three months of employment; continued employment depends on passing the examination within two attempts.
  • Thorough knowledge of dietetics and nutrition. Knowledge of medical conditions such as diabetes, renal, stress, cardiac care, critical care, obstetrics, medical/surgical and long‑term care is required.
  • Prior clinical, outpatient and classroom instruction experience is desired.
  • Community service nutritional experience is also desired.
Essential Physical Abilities/Motor Skills
  • Able to travel independently throughout all Memorial Healthcare facilities.
  • Small motor skills required to operate modern computer, office and telephone equipment.
