CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:Must be willing to complete the parent support partner certification requirements. Certification includes five days of training in the MDHHS approved curriculum and ongoing training model, specific to the peer population served. Training is structured with an initial three-day segment with two additional days occurring approximately a month and a half later.
EXPERIENCE:Must be a parent and/or primary day-to-day caregiver of a child with a serious emotional disturbance (SED), Severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and/or Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) who is currently or has in the past, received mental health services. Experience with other child serving organizations (DHS, Court, School) preferred.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY:The Parent Support Partner will partner with families to support, educate and empower them to use their voice, develop positive relationships with service providers, and develop skills to navigate the systems their child and family are involved with. Parent Support Partners will support families, provide community resources, develop natural supports,and engage with service providers . This will be accomplished through team meetings, home visits, and coordination with other agency service providers.
The Parent Support Partner shall be responsible to the Supervisor of Child& Family Outpatient Therapy or other supervisory staff as designated by the Chief Executive Officer.
