Job Summary
Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
Carries out specific duties in his/her skilled trade as assigned by the Director of Facilities Services or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Electricians will:
- Perform electrical installations, run conduit and do electrical troubleshooting.
- Repairs/replaces switches, receptacles and other electrical components.
- Repairs/replaces light fixtures.
- Repairs/replaces all elements of the electrical distribution system.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all elements of the electrical distribution system.
- Maintains current electrical license.
- Plumbers will:
- Perform plumbing installations, repair and replace bad lines, clean plugged drain lines and troubleshoot plumbing problems.
- Carpenters will:
- Build countertops and cabinets, hang doors, repair or replace door closers, latches and passage sets.
- Paperhangers will:
- Remove wallpaper, paint walls and trim, hang wallpaper.
- Refrigeration technicians will:
- Install ice makers and air conditioners, troubleshoot refrigeration problems and make repairs as necessary.
- Monitor and adjust components of all Johnson Controls systems including Metasys system.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems, Johnson Controls system and refrigeration units.
- Repair/replace HVAC systems and components.
- Repair/replace refrigeration systems and components.
- Maintain current EPA certification for all types of equipment (Universal).
- Electronic technicians will:
- Install nurse call systems, repair and install P.A. systems, troubleshoot and repair anything electronic in nature.
- If work load is light in the skilled trade area, performs general maintenance work as assigned:
- Observes mechanical devices (pumps, engines, motors) in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of troubles.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to defective parts.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Performs miscellaneous plumbing, pipe fitting, and carpentry, electrical, painting and mechanical work.
- During the winter season, shovels snow from walkways and/or plows the hospital parking lot.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards and the code of ethical behavior.
Job Responsibilities
- Sets up tables and chairs in meeting rooms.
- Restrains unruly patients and/or visitors.
- Performs preventive maintenance as assigned by the Director of Facilities Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- May be required to hold a valid local or state license in specialty.
- Must have some trade or vocational school or background, and at least one year of experience in his/her particular trade.
- Certified Healthcare Mechanic is preferred.
- Must be able to pass the exam for local or state license if required.
- Sedentary Work:
Frequently required to stand, kneel and crouch. On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs and bend. Is frequently required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100 lbs. - Vision:
Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near acuity:
Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Midrange acuity:
Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet. - Motor Coordination:
While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment. - Speaking/Hearing:
Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening. - Must be able to handle tools, organize a number of daily tasks, maintain safe work habits and complete written work performed, including preventive maintenance records.
- Must be able to use a personal computer to track work orders, check status of HVAC and operate other maintenance software programs.
- Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.
- Fine hand/eye coordination required to perform small device repairs.
