Position: Social Studies Teacher (6-8)

Job Description

Oxford Middle School is seeking a skilled and dedicated Social Studies Teacher to join our academic team for the upcoming  School Year. We are looking for an educator who is committed to fostering student growth within a supportive and collaborative school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach middle school social studies courses in alignment with district curriculum and Connecticut standards
  • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment that encourages historical thinking, civic engagement, inquiry, analysis, and effective communication skills
  • Utilize primary and secondary sources, discussion, writing, and project-based learning to deepen student understanding of historical and contemporary issues
  • Collaborate with colleagues and staff to support student achievement and school initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations
  • Complete all required administrative duties, including grading and reporting on student performance
  • Think flexibly and adapt to the specific instructional needs of students
  • Collect data to measure impact on instruction and student achievement
  • Work in an inclusionary/co-teaching model
Qualifications
  • Valid Connecticut Social Studies (026) certification
  • Experience teaching at the middle school level, preferred
  • Strong, effective communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a professional team environment; proactive team player
  • Dedication to providing a positive and meaningful learning experience for students
