BASO Lighting designs and manufactures luminaires and lighting systems for retail, office, hotel, and residential environments. BASO’s production & logistics facility, engineering team, and inside sales center, are located in Oxford, Connecticut, supporting end-to-end product development and delivery.

Role Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, documentation, manufacturing, and continuous improvement of BASO Lighting products. This role bridges engineering and production by creating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), maintaining engineering documentation, supporting new product introductions, and working directly with manufacturing to ensure products are built efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and willing to spend time both at a computer and on the production floor to ensure engineering solutions are practical and effective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, maintain, and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new and existing products.
  • Develop and revise engineering documentation, drawings, and product specifications.
  • Evaluate existing products and recommend design improvements to increase manufacturability, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Sales, and Inside Sales to provide engineering support throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support new product development from concept through production release.
  • Spend time on the assembly floor assisting with the build of new and existing products to validate designs, resolve issues, and improve assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and product-related issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing assembly procedures, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ensure products comply with company quality standards and applicable industry requirements.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments when engineering expertise is required.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in lighting or electrical product manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of die cast, plastic injection, sheet metal, machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management and engineering change processes.
