SMT Operator (Second Shift) We are hiring PCB Manufacturing Technicians (SMT Operator) to support printed circuit board production for our client's manufacturing operation in Oxford, MA. The shift hours are 2pm - 10pm Monday - Friday. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and performing basic operator-level maintenance on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used to assemble electronic components onto printed circuit boards.
The ideal candidate has experience operating SMT equipment in an electronics or manufacturing environment, can follow detailed work instructions, and has strong attention to quality and detail. Candidates with mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn may have opportunities to cross-train on additional PCB manufacturing equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and monitor SMT production equipment, including:
Solder paste printers Pick-and-place machines Reflow ovens - Perform machine changeovers and verify equipment setup according to production requirements.
- Load feeders, components, and consumable materials for production runs.
- Monitor equipment operation and production processes.
- Inspect PCB assemblies and components to ensure they meet quality standards and work instructions.
- Verify component placement accuracy and assist with maintaining process quality.
- Identify and troubleshoot basic equipment, material, and process-related issues.
- Perform routine operator-level cleaning and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
- Follow ESD handling procedures and all applicable safety requirements.
- Accurately complete production and quality documentation.
- Support production goals related to quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Cross-train on additional PCB manufacturing equipment, including selective soldering systems and related assembly processes.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and production teams.
- Work overtime and weekends as needed during the assignment.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience with SMT equipment, PCB assembly, electronics manufacturing, soldering, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience identifying common electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, and integrated circuits is beneficial.
- Experience with lead-free soldering, hand assembly, or electronic component installation preferred.
- Familiarity with ESD procedures and safe handling of electronic components.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic equipment or process issues.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and production procedures.
- Dependable, motivated, and willing to learn new manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Overtime and weekend time available but not required.
Entry-level candidates with relevant manufacturing, electronics, mechanical, or production experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong reliability, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to learn.
