Procurement Specialist

This is a time limit position (NS-14). This position is located at the Oxford State Veterans Home. This position is the entry-level of professional procurement work. Incumbents in this classification are responsible for all phases of a purchasing program and for retaining information for analyzing and preparing reports on current market prices. The work involves planning, developing, and maintaining modern, economical purchasing policies and procedures for the procurement of a wide variety and a large volume of materials, supplies, and equipment;

and direction and analysis of contract proposals and negotiations and the review of a wide range of commodity items. The work also includes responsibility for investigation of current market prices and trends. Incumbents receive limited supervision from a supervisor/manager and may oversee work of lower-level procurement personnel. Posting room and board payments to residents' accounts in the Financial Accounting System.

Reconcile the procurement card account and other related processes. Update staff on state contract pricing and listing information. Prepare requisitions and order supplies. Work with vendors and agency employees to resolve any issues or disputes with payments Basic accounting principles and concepts, accounts payable, and budgeting Candidate should be a self-starter, be able to work independently, and as a team.

Prepare internal monthly and quarterly reports. Ensuring all paperwork is completed when closing out a resident account according to VA requirements. Day-to-day duties of verifying deposits, handling withdrawals, and issuing money to residents etc. Recording transactions, which involves logging checks, money orders, and cash into the residents' accounts in the Financial Accounting System. Keeping residents' personal information confidential. Must have written and oral communication skills to handle inquiries and keep accurate records.

Ability to understand the principles and procedures of bookkeeping and record-keeping Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel etc. Submit purchase order requests into the Mississippi Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC). Maintaining bookkeeping databases and spreadsheets, and updating information as needed. Developing strong relationships with cross-functional teams and departments. Working closely with the Administrator with all staff teams.

Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent customer service skills, strong attention to detail. Ability to work as part of a cohesive team.
