Position: Dean (Director) of Academics in Upper School

Overview

The Dean (Director) of Academics at Regents School of Oxford aims to serve the academic and curricular aspects of the upper school. The candidate, with a strong background in classical and teaching pedagogical strategies, will have oversight of the upper school curriculum as well as a faculty mentor for all upper school faculty. The candidate will be responsible for onboarding new faculty and oversight of the student success program in the upper school.

This position will report to the upper school principal and will have administrative role in the upper school.

Responsibilities
  • Oversight of curriculum to include scope and sequence, pacing, and course objectives
  • Mentor for all faculty including onboarding of new faculty
  • Oversight of professional development activities in the upper school
  • Oversight, implementation, review, and support of student success plans within accommodation program
  • Lead or collaborate with principals to ensure curricular choices align across schools and build logically upon each other

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of Classical Christian education and be well-versed in current educational practices and methods. Experience working in a Classical Christian School and with collaborative decision-making processes is preferred.

  • Ability to speak fluently about Classical Christian education in various contexts
  • Excellent communication skills: clear, articulate, professional in speaking and writing
  • Comfort in speaking to small and large groups
  • Excellent organizational skills: able to set priorities and achieve them, able to keep cognizant of many processes going on simultaneously
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent computer skills including database and spreadsheets
  • Ability to work well with others and with volunteers
  • Ability to delegate and supervise tasks
  • Friendly, warm, courteous, good listening skills
  • Enjoys meeting people, personable yet professional in demeanor, especially on the phone and in personal meetings.
Academic Leadership
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Classical Christian philosophy of education that will enable him or her to provide leadership and guidance in the school’s development of and commitment to a Christian worldview.
  • Lead in such a way that the school’s expected student outcomes are thoroughly addressed through educational programs and curricular choices.
  • Have knowledge of the school’s curriculum, standards, and mission.
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of the school.
  • Provide assistance and input in regards to the curriculum development of the school.
  • Have knowledge of the physical and emotional development of children, and understand the problems they face while growing up.
  • Lead the school staff in continuous professional development through such activities as new staff orientation, in-service opportunities, continuing education, and teaching demonstrations and training.
  • Endeavor to be a resource person when teachers need help with their curriculum planning, teaching techniques or methods, and teacher-child or child-parent relationships.
  • Evaluate employees using formal and informal evaluation, and hold evaluation conferences for staff members as advised by principal and/or Head of School.
Administrative Leadership
