Summary

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position is responsible for following lesson plans, maintaining classroom order, and ensuring a safe, positive learning environment for students in grades PreK-12. The Substitute Teacher performs instructional and supervisory duties in accordance with Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) guidelines and district policies.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid Mississippi Substitute Teacher License or Teaching License required (per MDE requirements).
  • Successful completion of district substitute training (if applicable).
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and classroom procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional.
  • Provide instruction as outlined in lesson plans prepared by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain classroom control and establish a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Carry out daily routines and procedures as directed.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other school areas.
  • Take attendance and submit reports as required by the school.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators and staff regarding classroom or student concerns.
  • Follow district policies, including those related to student discipline, confidentiality, and safety.
  • Leave written feedback for the returning teacher regarding class activities, student behavior, and assignments completed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Designee.
