The Mississippi State University (MSU) Ameri Corps Tutoring Program is launching a targeted academic intervention and professional development initiative in Starkville, Mississippi. Driven by a dedicated cohort of 40 Ameri Corps Volunteers, the program is designed to address critical academic needs within the university's undergraduate population while simultaneously building a robust pipeline for the future education workforce. The primary focus of the 40 Ameri Corps Volunteers will be providing high-quality, targeted tutoring to MSU undergraduate students.
The program identifies beneficiaries through two main channels: students who proactively request academic assistance, and those flagged as academically at risk by MSU’s internal student monitoring programs.
Volunteers will serve as academic tutors and engage in professional training. Tutoring responsibilities include preparing materials, maintaining accurate electronic records, and engaging with students. Volunteers will also participate in training, including completing the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC), participating in specialized Ameri Corps training, and class attendance in education preparation courses. Volunteers must maintain a professional appearance, wear the Ameri Corps logo daily, and strictly manage their schedules and monthly timesheets.
Volunteers may also support approved community service events that align with Ameri Corps guidelines.
