Tenure Track Faculty Position in Organic​/Organometallic Synthesis

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi is a vibrant and growing unit with excellent research infrastructure, including modern instrumentation and core facilities. Ole Miss offers a highly collaborative research environment and strong institutional support for new faculty. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program in chemistry, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute service to the department, college, university, and chemistry-discipline.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August 2027. We seek an outstanding organic/organometallic synthetic chemist who will establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, excel in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to departmental, college, and university service.

Individuals with expertise in any area of organic or organometallic chemistry, especially with research interests in synthetic chemistry of macromolecules and/or green/sustainable chemistry, and in those areas complementing active research programs in the Department, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and relevant postdoctoral experience in synthetic chemistry or a closely related field. The Department has 17 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 teaching faculty, and a vibrant graduate Ph.D. program.

Construction of a new $175M STEM education facility was completed in 2024 fostering interdisciplinary opportunities to fulfill our commitment to excellence in chemical education. The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized, externally-funded research program; provide mentorship for graduate and undergraduate researchers; demonstrate excellence in teaching; and perform service to the department, college, university, and community

• Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program that produces high-impact scholarly publications and advances the field of chemistry or biochemistry.
• Teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses (lecture and laboratory), develop new courses as needed, and incorporate modern pedagogical practices.
• Recruit, mentor, and supervise undergraduate research students, M.S. students, and Ph.D. students, including serving on thesis and dissertation committees.
• Actively seek and secure external research funding from federal agencies (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE), foundations, and other sources.
• Participate in departmental governance, including serving on committees related to curriculum, instrumentation, safety, graduate admissions, and faculty searches.
• Contribute to college and university service through participation in broader academic committees and initiatives.
• Engage in professional service, such as reviewing manuscripts, grant proposals, and serving on conference or professional society committees.
