Position Type: Full-Time Salary Range: $17.39/hr - $20.47/hr
Description of Position:
The special education teacher assistant is an educational professional who assists full-time special education teachers with reinforcing the instruction, assisting with classroom activities and providing clerical assistance. This position will involve extra assistance or supervision of students while the special education teacher is out of the classroom. The special education teacher assistant helps monitor and supervise students to ensure a safe and orderly environment within the classroom.
This position provides an additional $1,000 per year in compensation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Provide Instructional Support (35%)- Assist classroom teacher with instructional duties and specialized tasks
- Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups
- Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher/therapist
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials
- Assist students with electronic communication devices, switches, pointers, feeders
- Perform clerical tasks (copies, filing)
- Maintain instructional materials
- Administer tests, homework, make-up work
- Serve as information source for substitute teachers
- Participate in development and support of special education programs
- Participate in implementing student behavior plans
- Assist with behavior modification and de-escalation techniques
- Monitor students in various environments to maintain safety
- Monitor student behavior, time-outs, and in-class detentions
