General Statement of Job
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting the dual language teacher in the Spanish Immersion program. The employee may perform a wide range of tasks to support the lead teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure provision of quality instruction for all students. The employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems and may lead small group activities.
The employee assists the lead teacher with general housekeeping and clerical duties. Reports to a Principal and/or lead teacher.
- Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem and independence.
- Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; records time-out and in-class suspension; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed.
- Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one‑on‑one assistance as needed.
- Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
- Performs general housekeeping duties to maintain an orderly classroom; performs repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment.
- Performs clerical duties: develops and files incident reports; grades papers and scores tests; checks attendance; makes copies; prepares classroom displays and instructional materials; operates audiovisual equipment; orders supplies; maintains class files, etc.
- Feeds students when necessary; toilets students when needed; assists with any other tasks students cannot perform independently.
- Participates in staff development workshops.
- Performs other related work as required.
Must hold an associate degree and have successfully completed 48 hours or Work Keys Career Readiness Certification (including the writing test) requirements. Bus driving is a requirement for this position.
Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
Dual Employment – All classified employees who work 30 or more hours sign a Dual Employment Agreement and must obtain an NC commercial driver license (CDL) with passenger endorsement to serve as a bus driver or monitor.

- Numerical Aptitude: ability to use mathematical formulas, add, subtract, and handle decimals and percentages.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
- Motor Coordination: ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately while using office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: ability to handle a variety of office machines with minimal eye/hand coordination.
- Color Discrimination: ability to differentiate between colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: ability to deal with people, remain adaptable under stress.
- Physical Communication: ability to talk, hear, and communicate by telephone.
