Job Purpose

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time
    :
    The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior
    :
    The teacher has established rules and procedures governing routine matters, verbal participation, talk, and movement during activities; frequently monitors behavior during whole‑class, small group, seat work, and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation
    :
    The teacher begins with a review of prior materials, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples, assigns tasks with a high success rate, asks questions appropriately, conducts lessons at a brisk pace, manages transitions efficiently, and summarizes main points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
    :
    Maintains clear standards and due dates; circulates during class to check performance; uses oral, written, and other products to assess progress; poses questions clearly one at a time.
  • Instructional Feedback
    :
    Provides feedback on correctness to encourage growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses and probes incorrect or no responses.
  • Facilitating Instruction
    :
    Uses an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, diagnostic data, and student needs; maintains accurate records; utilizes available resources to support instruction.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment
    :
    Treats all students equitably and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
    :
    Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies, and regulations; follows a professional development plan and demonstrates growth.
  • Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

    Use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs; exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects; consistent with Light Work.

    :
    Speak and signal to convey information and receive instructions from superiors.

    :
    Use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, divide, use decimals, percentages, and apply descriptive statistics and inference.

    :
    Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
  • Motor Coordination
    :
    Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment.
  • Manual Dexterity
    :
    Handle items such as office equipment and hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Color Discrimination
    :
    Differentiate between colors and shades.
  • Interpersonal Temperament
    :
    Deal with people beyond giving/receiving instructions; adapt under stress and emergencies.
  • Physical Communication
    :
    Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.
