Middle Grades ELA Teacher

Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026

Location: Northern Granville Middle School - Oxford, North Carolina

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time:
    Ensure materials ready, start class quickly, keep students on task, maintain high time‑on‑task levels.
  • Management of Student Behavior:
    Establish rules and procedures for verbal participation, talk, movement; monitor behavior during whole‑class, small group, and transitions; stop inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation:
    Begin with review, introduce objectives, speak fluently, present concepts clearly, provide examples, assign tasks with high success rates, ask appropriate questions, pace lesson briskly, handle transitions smoothly, summarize key points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
    Maintain clear standards, circulate during class, use oral/written work to check progress, pose clear questions.
  • Instructional Feedback:
    Provide feedback on correctness, encourage growth, give prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirm correct responses, probe and hint when responses are incorrect.
  • Facilitating Instruction:
    Develop instructional plans aligned with curricular goals, use diagnostic data, maintain accurate records, match objectives to student needs, use resources effectively.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
    Treat all students fairly, interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
    Carry out assigned duties, follow laws and policies, pursue professional development.
  • Additional Functions:
    Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

  • Interpersonal Communication – speak and signal to convey information.
  • Language Ability – read and prepare correspondence and instructional materials.

  • Numerical Aptitude – use mathematical formulas, perform calculations.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude – inspect items for dimensions.
  • Motor Coordination – coordinate hands and eyes rapidly.
  • Manual Dexterity – handle office tools.
  • Color Discrimination – differentiate colors.
  • Interpersonal Temperament – work under stress, emergencies.
  • Physical Communication – talk and hear, use telephone.

Salary: $4,100 to $7,079 per month
