Under general supervision and in consultation with other staff, provides programs, materials and services for adults age 18 and up. Provides in depth reference assistance in addition to assisting patrons with all library services. Performs professional library work focused on the development, delivery, promotion, and evaluation of adult library services throughout the Granville County Library System. An employee in this class is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing adult programming, outreach initiatives, collection development, reader's advisory services, and community engagement activities.

The employee develops and maintains the adult collection, assists patrons with information and technology needs, and works collaboratively with community organizations to identify and address local educational, cultural, and informational interests. The employee serves as a system-wide resource for adult services and participates in strategic planning, grant activities, and service development initiatives. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the Library Director and is evaluated through conferences, reports, program outcomes, collection performance, quality of services delivered, and patron feedback.

• Considerable knowledge of adult literature, reader's advisory services, and collection development principles.
• Knowledge of public library services, programming, outreach, and community engagement practices.
• Working knowledge of library technologies, databases, digital resources, and integrated library systems.
• Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies affecting public libraries and adult services.
• Ability to plan, organize, promote, and evaluate programs for diverse adult audiences.
• Ability to assess community needs and develop responsive services and programming.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders.
• Ability to analyze data and use statistics to guide service and collection decisions.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, officials, community partners, and the general public.
• Ability to use sound judgment and to interact tactfully and courteously with patrons and community members.

Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Considerable experience in adult programming, collection development, outreach, reference services, community engagement, or related public library functions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License may be required.

• North Carolina Public Librarian Certification or ability to obtain certification within the time period established by the State Library of North Carolina.
